Aymara gave us the inside scoop on how to save vegetables and where to shop for locally farmed food. She talked about how she’s created merchandise to promote sustainability. She makes totes bags and shirts that feature “ugly” vegetables. You can find all this information and more on her Instagram @ConcernedCook and our DGFG Live Story!

On this week’s segments of #VolunteersWithAVoice, our friend and Specialist Philanthropy & Engagement from Hasbro, Estefania Monch joined us for a reading of Peppa is Kind by Peppa Pig.
Led by Estefania and in partnership with LLF, we have taken Hasbro’s Be Fearless Be Kind initiative to schools across Miami-Dade County since 2017! Together, we spread a message of kindness and inclusivity to children as young as five years old. Estefania said, “We teach them to be kind because it’s important to always be kind to each other and be mindful that everyone can have a bad day, everyone might not have it easy in life, some people struggle more than others and have a hard time getting by and so we should always be kind to each other.”
LLF’s #VolunteersWithAVoice segments support LLF’s Back to School initiative! Our goal is to get school supplies to 1500 underserved children in need from LLF’s Partner Facilities, including Fienberg Fisher K-8, Excel Kids Academy, Brent Wright Leadership Academy, Carrfour and Motivational Edge. To learn more and make a donation, visit give.classy.org/BackToSchool2020.
Tune in next week for a reading by Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent, Alberto Carvalho!

For today’s special STEM Activity Hour, we had Everest Maya-Tudor, one of our very own LLF Junior Chapter Leaders! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Since this DGFG Live was STEM themed, each of the activities had a learning component to it.
Everest is currently a student at Gulliver getting ready to go back to school online. She began volunteering at Activity Hour and was inspired by the way STEM could be integrated into the program. She began hosting these STEM Activity hours once a month with The Little Lighthouse Foundation. Once the program started to pick up, she applied for the “Call For Kindness” grant from Riley’s Way Foundation and was able to receive $2,000 to be able to host more STEM activities with our shelters once we return to our programming. We can’t thank her enough for her dedication to LLF and helping bring STEM to children!
