DGFG Live Week 15: Three Om Five, Ramen Recipe, Squats, Squats, Squats!

Back in June, the Little Lighthouse Foundation launched a wall sit challenge to raise money for our partner facilities that were affected by COVID-19. The instructions were simple:
Record a video of yourself holding a wall sit for 19 seconds (in honor of COVID-19)
Nominate at least 5 friends to do the same
Donate $19 at TheLittleLighthouse.org

All the funds raised help sustain LLF’s DGFG Programming, which encompasses all of the programs that support our partner facilities. Partner facilities include shelters, hospitals and youth organizations.

Mindful Hour with Kristen Cooper from Three Om Five

Relax. Take a deep breath. We know how stressful life can be sometimes, so we brought on a very special yoga instructor, Kristen Cooper,  to host our Mindful Hour Program. 

Kristen Cooper’s passion for yoga started when she was 12 years old. Growing up she played sports and her body constantly felt sore and tight, so her mother suggested yoga. It was love at first pose. Cooper currently works at Three Om Five, a yoga and health coaching studio. The studio is beginning a new initiative that brings yoga to nonprofits all across South Florida. 

Each morning, Kristen wakes up and stretches her mind and her body. She shared her sun salutation routine with us and here is how to do it: 

Sun Salutation

  1. Arms up 
  2. Touch your toes
  3. Up dog 
  4. Down dog

Adopt a Meal with Ashley Rock, an LLF Intern

LLF’s very own intern, Ashley Rock, shared her college ramen upgraded recipe! Ashley is one out of three marketing interns this summer. She attends the University of Miami and is going into her senior year (real life is coming up fast).

 After working behind the scenes since May, Ash was ready to step in front of the camera for LLF’s famous Adopt a Meal Program. Under normal circumstances, this program would take place at the Ronald McDonald House feeding families whose children are currently getting medical treatment. Instead, Ashley shared her recipe from her kitchen in beautiful Southern California.  

Here is Rock’s Ramen Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Ramen Noodle Packet
  • Sriracha
  • Coconut milk 
  • Mint
  • Cilantro 
  • Basil 
  • Baby Spinach 
  • Jalapeno 
  • Ginger 
  • Green Onions 
  • Bacon 
  • Hard Boiled Egg

Directions: 

  1. Cook the ramen noodles as directed by the packet 
  2. When finished cooking place noodles in bowl 
  3. Add the flavor packet (that came in the ramen noodles), Sriracha, and coconut milk 
  4. Add mint, basil, and cilantro 
  5. Add baby spinach, green onions, ginger, and jalapenos
  6. Sprinkle bacon on top 
  7. Add the hard boiled egg 
  8. Enjoy a nice bowl of cheap and delicious ramen!

Thursday is Fit Club presented by LaCroix Day! Amanda Ferreira showed us a killer Brazilian Style Workout! Here is the workout routine!

Workout:

Warm up: Bodyweight Squats (2 sets of 20 reps)

Cossack Squats (3 sets of 40 reps)

Slow Pause Squats (3 sets of 10 reps, 3 pauses going down and 3 going up)

Bulgarian Split Squats (3 sets of 12)

Seated Pistol Squats (3 sets of 10 reps)

Banded (or not) Side-to-Side Squats (2 sets of 50 reps)
