We got into the Halloween Spirit by kicking it off with a spooky treat! On Monday’s #DGFGLive we had Speech Pathologist, Ailen Lucero also also known as @BilingualTherapiesFL for our #CraftNight Program. She taught us how to make a DIY Halloween themed sensory bin. It includes food items like macaroni and beans with a mixture of spooky items like fake eyeballs, spiders and skeleton hands. She suggests finding the smaller halloween items at the dollar store; easy and affordable. When making the bin she suggests storing the excess items in ziplock bags as well as storing the finished product in a separate ziplock bag. She was born in Argentina and came as a young girl at the age of 7. Her mother studied Psychology which influenced her path in Behavioral Analysis and Speech Pathology. This sensory and learning experience is one of her favorite activities to create with her children and was kind enough to share with us. Check out the full video on our IGTV!

For our second #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour this week, we had worldwide stars DJ Khaled and Nicole Tuck, along with their son Asahd, read The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen.
Each week, we have our amazing #VolunteersWithAVoice guests lend their voice to read a children’s story on our #DGFGLive. This Wednesday we had DJ Khaled and Nicole Tuck. DJ Khaled is an American DJ, record executive, record producer, hype man, and media personality. He is married to Nicole Tuck and has two kids, Asahd and Aalam. Together, Khaled and Tuck founded We the Best Foundation, which aims to enrich the lives of the future generation. The foundation focuses on supporting local nonprofits and helping the underserved community.
After reading The Pout-Pout Fish with their son Asahd, Nicole and Khaled talked about the importance of getting through this new normal virtual lifestyle, while still giving back. Nicole explained how the Asahd Initiative was started; every single one of Asahd’s birthday parties has been to benefit a charity and help those kids who can not afford to have a big birthday party. We the Best Foundation is doing amazing things to help give back to our community, and we’re so grateful to have gotten to share about what they do!
Thank you again to the Khaled’s for a wonderful program! We appreciate your support for The Little Lighthouse Foundation.
