The middle of the week just got better with our #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour with Sarah Arison, president of the Arison Arts Foundation! She read Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts.
Each week, we have our amazing #VolunteersWithAVoice lend their voice to read a children’s story on our #DGFGLive. This Wednesday we had Sarah Arison, an active supporter of the arts and philanthropy. Sarah is the president of the Arison Arts Foundation, founded by her grandparents in 1981. Sarah is also part of the American ballet theater, Lincoln Center, Americans for the Arts, and many other foundations that help promote the arts! Although the pandemic has been hard for the arts, since most performances focus on big in-person events, the upside is that there are virtual programs in the works. It has definitely been an adjustment, but makes all of us a bit more creative with how we give back!
Thank you again to Sarah for a wonderful program! We appreciate your support for The Little Lighthouse Foundation.
Sarah read Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. It’s a children’s picture book that is about how a life short on money can be big on love, good values , and friendship. Check out the full video on our IGTV!

Story Hour #VolunteersWithAVoice with Johanna Gomez

Following Sarah Arison’s Story Hour, we had NBC 6 In The Mix, Johanna Gomez read us Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes by Evan Chen. A book that focuses on self love and self acceptance which is very important at this time. Johanna believes this story was the best lesson to teach children in this day of age and especially teach girls that “you don’t all have to fit in one mold” and there is no need to compare yourself. It also promotes women empowerment and puts a spotlight on women who have achieved great things.
A native of Manhattan, New York, and born to Dominican parents, Johanna Gomez is a graduate of Florida International University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication in the school of Journalism. Johanna has three children and loves to read Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes by Evan Chen to them. Her daughters especially love this book and she wants them to know at a young age that women are capable of anything!
She is currently the co-host and reporter for “6 in the Mix,” the daily lifestyle show on NBC 6 South Florida, which focuses on food, fun, and the lives of celebrities. Her accomplishments and current career came from working hard and pushing past obstacles that came her way. This is advice she reminds her children of and wants them to strive towards their goals.
You can keep up with Johanna on Instagram @JohannaGomez. Tune in next week for readings by Franklin Sirmans and Nicole Tuck and DJ Khaled!
