Mindful Hour with Shanut Anaut

This week we kicked it off mindfully! On Monday’s #DoGoodFeelGood we had special guest Shanut Anaut, also known as @Shanutxo for our #MindfulHour. Shanut discussed the importance and power of mindset. She talked to us about the time, energy and effort it goes into developing mental wellness and how important it is.

Shanut is a Miami local and was born and raised in South Florida. As a little girl, she recalls being a ball of energy and how she still manages to remain so energetic. She expresses gratitude for her grandmother who instilled healthy habits for her as a young girl. Her grandmother, who is a Cuban native helped raise her. Shaunt adapted mental wellness from her grandmother who always empowered her to use her mind and think positively.

Shanut currently has ventured out in different professions which she is passionate about. She is in real estate, a dancer instructor for The Vixen Workout and leads a girl gang for Monat products. It was insightful to watch and hear how Shanut made it to where she is today and how she wants to steer the younger generation to learn about the importance of mental welless.

On one of this week’s segments of #VolunteersWithAVoice, Aesthetic Account Manager and wife of Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, Maria Carvalho, joined us for a reading of The World Needs More Purple People by Kristen Bell and Benjamin Hart.

We asked Maria why she thought reading stories about kindness is important for families. She said, “I think it’s important to have a conversation with your children and reading books like this really sends the message home. Kids get it right away!”

Maria also discussed her time working with the Lotus House and the importance of programming like Story Hour, DGFG Live and more! She also gave us some words of wisdom about loving ourselves and the significance of doing good.

You can keep up with Maria on Instagram @miachic18. Tune in next week for a reading by Stichiz!

Tune in every Monday-Thursday at 3 P.M. for our DGFG live segments!

This Wednesday, we had our own LLF Intern Stella Ramirez host the Adopt A meal segment, presented by Tita Italia. She taught us how to make one of her family’s staple comfort foods, “Arroz con consommé” and talked about how working with The Little Lighthouse Foundation has been so far!

Growing up in a big Hispanic household, family has always been very important to Stella. She has always loved having family dinners, and this recipe is one of her favorites! Stella became an LLF intern for this Fall semester in August. She has really enjoyed working hands on in the social media and content creation of our programs, which is what she has been studying as an undergraduate student at FIU. She believes it’s important to do good and put out content that matters. Overall, she has been really enjoying all she has learned as an intern with us!

Check out the ingredients and instructions below for this delicious dinner recipe!

Ingredients:

  • Rice (extra long grain). Can be white or brown!
  • Diced ham
  • Beef consommé
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Put 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan on medium heat
  2. Add diced ham to the pan and cook
  3. Wash the rice twice
  4. Put rice in rice cooker
  5. Put two cans of beef consommé into the rice
  6. Start cooking the rice
  7. Add the ham cubes into rice when they get as crispy as you’d like
  8. Once the cooker is done, fluff up your rice and enjoy!

In honor of this week’s Fit Club segment, we had fitness leader and entrepreneur, Lizzy Chiappy join us with a yoga session. To relieve any stress or negative energy from the week, Lizzy took us through a yoga workout that made you feel relaxed and stress free by the end of it. She is passionate about integrating the benefits of yoga into people’s lives and is an expert in fitness.

As the Founder of MYP Athletes, Lizzy has put in years of experience, multiple fitness certifications, and research studies to form an active recovery yoga program that caters to athletes specifically. Lizzy has been a prominent figure in Miami’s health and fitness industry since 2010. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Miami who teaches her the benefits of yoga to college students. She has facilitated over 700 athletes ranging from youth and collegiate to amateur and professional sports. She also is the Co-Founder of Casa Vinyasa, which is an infrared heated studio in South Miami where yoga lessons are taught.

Lizzy is very active on social media and spreads the message about how important it is to be present and living life one day at a time. Her message and love for fitness made her the perfect guest for this week’s Fit Club presented by LaCroix.
