We had a great start for this week! On Monday’s #DGFGLive we had special guest and philanthropist, Tatiana Teo also known as @Tatiana.Teo.Photography for our #AdoptAMeal Program. Tatiana talked to us about her hispanic heritage, her cooking skills and the upbringing of her family. She relates with the struggle parents are dealing with at home schooling and her decision on sending her kids back to school.
Tatiana is a retired internal medicine doctor. She graduated from the University of Miami and completed her residency in Columbia University in New York. She moved back to Miami 6 years ago and “retired”, however she’s debated taking her board exams again and going back to work in medicine! Now she focuses on her photography.
Tatiana is known for her work as a philanthropist and a photographer. She has worked with Ronald McDonald House Charities to make and pass out meals with her daughters. Monday’s programming was special because her three daughters were in the kitchen, preparing a chicken and roasted potato and carrots recipe together. She has three daughters that range from 7th grade to 3rd grade. She discussed how her and her daughters cook meals for the homeless every other week and donate them. She’s really raising them to be humble and giving young girls.

Story Hour #VolunteersWithAVoice with Missy Babicka!

On one of this week’s segments of #VolunteersWithAVoice, the First Lady of LLF herself, Missy Babicka, joined us for a reading of I Am Love by Susan Verde. She was also accompanied by her daughter, Layla Babicka!
LLF’s #VolunteersWithAVoice segments were created to share the message of kindness through children’s stories. After reading her story, Jonathan asked Missy to tell him the top three lessons that resonated with her from the book. She said, “It says how you take care of your body and it shows a girl doing yoga. Exercise is so important! Love is remembering, I’ve had a lot of loved ones who passed away, especially my mom, and it’s so special to remember her with Layla. I really love the one that says Love is Creating. I think we can express love through the work that we do.”
Jonathan and Missy also dove into the impact of volunteerism, for them as a family and for their children, as well as the impact that LLF has had through our DGFG Live Virtual Programming. “A lot of these children would not have the opportunity [to participate in after school programming] if it weren’t for LLF,” Missy said of LLF’s Virtual Programs.
You can keep up with Missy on Instagram @BeautyBodyBaby. Tune in next week for readings by Rebecca Fishman Lipsey of The Miami Foundation and Neki Mohan, former news anchor and Founder of The Starting Point!

For this week of #DGFGLive, we had two #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour segments! Our second one featured Shareef Malnik, the Chairman of Nextwave Funding at Make-a-Wish Foundation. He read Horton Hears a Who! By Dr. Seuss.
Our #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour’s aim is to teach children about important messages they’ll need in life through an entertaining book, and this segment was no exception. This book gives kids a message that even if you are different from everyone else, you are just as important. It is important to use your voice and know that it is just as important as everyone else’s. Shareef believes that “We’re here to work as a team”. The stronger we are as a community, the better we will all be!
Watch the full story to hear Shareef’s funny and animated voices reading Horton Hears a Who!
