For this Monday’s Story Hour #VolunteersWithAVoice, we were joined by Lauren Morgan from Touching Miami With Love. Lauren did a reading of Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae.
Lauren is the Children’s Program Coordinator for Touching Miami With Love Ministries (TML). TML was founded in 1995 by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship with the help of some local churches in Miami. Their mission is to “share the love of Christ by offering hope, opportunities, and resources to our communities.” TML offers programs for children, youth, and adults so people of all ages can come together with others to learn and grow. Their goal is focused on guiding children and youth spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally.
TML provides programs year-round for youth and they serve nearly 400 students every weekday and on non-instructional days such as breaks and holidays. They offer different types of support for kids K-5th and youth 6-12th grades so they can address each group’s needs. For children K-5th grade, they offer programs including Group LIteracy, Fitness, and Social-Emotional Learning. For youth 6-12th grades, they offer programs including College Readiness, Technology, Arts and Culture, Sports, Civic Engagement, Job Training, and more.
For Lauren’s DGFG Live segment, we discussed our upcoming Back to School 2021 program where we will be providing school supplies to underserved children for the upcoming school year. Touching Miami With Love is one of 8 beneficiaries that will receive donations and support from volunteers for this year’s program. We are in need of volunteers, donations, and child sponsors for our event that will be taking place on Friday, August 13th. Mindful Hour presented by LaCroix Sparkling Water with Kristin DeCesare

This Wednesday for Mindful Hour Presented by LaCroix Sparkling Water, we were joined again by Kristin DeCesare (@confidance_by_kristin), a professional dancer, instructor, choreographer, and certified breathwork instructor.
Kristin started her career as a school teacher but realized that her true passion was for dance. Since starting her professional dance career, Kristin has worked in New York City performing on Saturday Night Live and the New York Knicks dance team. In 2011, Kristin auditioned to be a dancer with Pitbull and ended up going on tour with him for 3 years.
After touring, Kristin switched over to the business side of Pitbull’s team and served as his creative director. She then decided to retire from touring and start her own company called Confidance by Kristin, where she and a team of instructors teach private and semi-private dance lessons for kids all over the country.
Today, aside from teaching dance, Kristin is a consultant for NBA and MLB dance teams. She has worked with the Chicago Bulls basketball team and the Miami Marlins baseball team. In addition to her work in the dance industry, she is also a trained breathwork facilitator and has found that she has a strong passion for breathwork.
For Kristin’s segment on DGFG Live this week, she switched gears from dance to meditation and breathwork. She guided us through a beginner’s meditation exercise where she describes each of the chakras and showed us how to take part in some basic breathing exercises.
