For this Monday’s Story Hour #VolunteersWithAVoice, we had Swire Properties USA’s, President, Kieran Bowers reading Enemy Pie by Derek Munson.
Kieran Bowers is a loving husband, a dad of three, a businessman and a very great story teller. Born in Stafford U.K, Kieran Bowers serves as President of Swire Properties, Inc., heading up the U.S. operations of the Hong Kong-based conglomerate. He oversees the company’s most ambitious project to date, which is the stunning Brickell City Center, which is a state-of-the-art 4.9 million-square-foot, mixed-use project located in the heart of Brickell. Comprising retail shops, residential condos (Reach and Rise) and a five-star hotel, EAST Miami, and two class-A office towers. Bowers is a game changer in Miami and we are thankful for getting the opportunity to chat with him.
On Monday December 21st, Kieran Bowers read the book Enemy Pie by Derek Munson, which is a story about kindness and how someone you might dislike for an odd reason, can become someone you end up liking at the end of the day. This book was Kieran’s favorite growing up and now he reads it to his children and it has become one of their favorites too. Thank you, Kieran, for joining us and volunteering your voice for our #VWAV Story Hour!
Tune in Monday-Thursday at 3 p.m. for our DGFG Live segments!

This Tuesday for our #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour Presented by Introhive we had Gale Nelson, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami (BBBSM). He read Mr. Okra Sells Fresh Fruits and Vegetables by Lashon Daley.
Gale Nelson was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and grew up in Toledo, Ohio where he began his pursuit of personal and professional success. Gale has worked his way up the ladder the hard way—always confident, determined and focused on his goals and building strong personal relationships. Gale’s professional career includes over 20 years of non-profit management and leadership experience. Currently, he is the President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, and since joining the team in July 2006, he has played a significant role in the growth and development of the agency’s mentoring and fund development programs.
Gale read Mr. Okra Sells Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, written by author and former BBBSM alumna, Lashon Daley. This story is a lovely ode to the taste and colors of the city of New Orleans through the lens of vibrant produce vendor, Mr. Okra. The story is based on real life character Arthur Robinson, known as Mr. Okra to the many New Orleanians he served every day. Daley’s book allows children to travel through the city of New Orleans with one of its most iconic characters, Mr. Okra.
Thank you again to Gale Nelson from BBBSM and to Introhive for your support in #VolunteersWithAVoice!
Make sure to tune in for more segments, Monday-Thursday @LLFoundation at 3PM!
