We started the week with DGFG Live, #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Vice President, Jennifer Chaplin Tolkin. Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of America is the largest wine and spirits distributor in the United States with operations in 44 states. Jennifer graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She helped build the Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Women in Leadership program. This program encourages women to find their strengths and leverage them in the business landscape in order to step in with confidence.
She joined us for a reading of Be Strong by Pat Zietlow Miller, a book about finding strength in unlikely places. Jennifer talked about how motherhood has made her a stronger person. She mentioned after being a mom she found the strength to do things she never that she could before and also apply what motherhood has taught her to her professional life. We also discussed Southern Glazer’s Wine &Spirits partnership with LLF. Which benefitted 2,000 underserved students from 8 LLF partner facilities, including Excel Kids Academy, Brent Wright Leadership Academy, Breakthrough Miami, The Motivational Edge, Touching Miami with Love, Miami Children’s Initiative, Easterseals, and Overtown Youth Center.

We had the most incredible guests for this week’s Mindful Hour segment, Co-founders of Kindness is a Superpower, Missy Babicka, and Kye Dailey. Missy is known as the First Lady of the Little Lighthouse Foundation. She noticed the importance of children understanding the meaning of empathy and compassion through her time volunteering. Missy’s goal is to teach children from all walks of life better social skills and kindness.
Kye is a board-certified Hypnotherapist and she specializes in mindfulness. She is also a Certified Yoga Instructor, Reiki Master, and Meditation Guide. Kye has been inspired to implement the principles and practices of Yoga and Mindfulness, she learned from her travels to India in a classroom setting. Kye believes that children are like sponges; introducing them to essential tools at an early age only allows them to create stable foundations for life.
Missy and Kye’s goal for Kindness is a Superpower is to teach children empathy and mindfulness. Through their program they want students to become emotionally healthy, compassionate, and provide them with the resources needed to solve problems and maintain a healthy and kind lifestyle.
