We started the week with DGFG Live, #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour with Chair of Children’s Movement of Florida, David Lawernce Jr. He is a graduate of the University of Florida and named “Outstanding Journalism Graduate” and subsequently from the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. In 2002 and 2008 David led successful campaigns for The Children’s Trust, a dedicated source of early intervention and prevention funding for children in Miami-Dade.
He joined us for a reading of The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson, a heartening book about finding the courage to connect, even when you feel scared and alone. David talked about the role books and reading played in his life, which is still something he loves doing. He says “reading builds relationships because you have more to talk about with others”. From a young David has loved learning through reading which, he continues to do even today.
