Have a  great start to the week with a delightful recipe brought to you by Do Good Feel Good Live (“DGFG Live”). One of our popular volunteer programs is Adopt a Meal, which inspired this segment. Due to quarantine, we can’t physically go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities and provide meals to families but fortunately enough, we have wonderful partners cooking recipes every Monday on our Instagram Live.

This week our very own intern, Nella made a delicious and easy-to-make recipe, Shrimp Tacos! With light ingredients, the recipe took no more than 15 minutes to make.

Take a look below for all the ingredients and instructions it took to make this recipe come to life!

Ingredients:

  • Roasted garlic sauce
  • Flour tortilla
  • Shrimp
  • Spinach
  • Shredded cheese
  • Medley of roasted tomato and onion

Instructions:

  1. Rinse shrimp under cold water and let it drain in a colander.
  2. Heat 1 tsp oil in a medium skillet over high heat.
  3. Add shrimp, cook and stir for 2 minutes.
  4. Add spinach, stir additionally for 2 minutes and drain excess liquid.
  5. Heat the flour tortillas in a separate skillet under low heat.
  6. Place shrimp and garlic sauce on flour tortillas.
  7. Top each with cheese, roasted tomato and onion.
  8. Plate to eat and enjoy!

Make sure to tune in for more recipes provided to you by our Adopt a Meal Program every Monday on our Instagram Live at 3PM!

Story Hour #VolunteersWithAVoice with Lisa Petrillo!

On this week’s segment of #VolunteersWithAVoice, our friend and CBS4 Entertainment Reporter, Lisa Petrillo joined us for a reading of Is There Really a Human Race? by Jamie Lee Curtis.

LLF’s #VolunteersWithAVoice segments were created to share the message of kindness. We asked Lisa what her biggest takeaway from the story was, and she said “I think it’s really about recognizing that you don’t have to run and be crazy and be first all the time. You don’t have to think you are perfect and you don’t have to think you are in a separate ‘race’. It’s people, it’s colors, it’s races it’s religion, and it’s also life. Slow down, be together, help each other and everybody wins the race!”

Lisa also gave us some insight into the first few projects of her career and how she got to where she is today!

LLF’s #VolunteersWithAVoice segments support LLF’s Back to School initiative! Our goal is to get school supplies to 1500 underserved children in need from LLF’s Partner Facilities, including Fienberg Fisher K-8, Excel Kids Academy, Brent Wright Leadership Academy, Carrfour and Motivational Edge. To learn more and make a donation, visit give.classy.org/BackToSchool2020.

You can keep up with Lisa on Instagram @LisaPetrillo. Tune in next week for a reading by our special guests, Laurie Jennings and Adam Kuperstein!

Craft Night with philanthropist and Vice President of the Penzer Foundation, Ariel Milgroom

As an avid fashionista and philanthropist, Ariel Milgroom was the perfect host for our environmentally friendly Craft Night segment this past Wednesday! In this DGFG Live, Ariel taught us how to transform any old T-shirt into something stylish by using fringe and beads, a technique that she learned from her mother.

Ariel is extremely passionate about the charity and social scene in Miami. She believes that it can be easy just to donate, but it’s better to get personally involved with a charity’s events and meet the faces behind the organization. She recently hosted her baby shower at Zoo Miami, along with donating to support their newest baby Koala, named “Hope”, and koalas affected in Australia.

Ariel is also passionate about being environmentally friendly with fashion, which is why today’s craft used recycled clothing to make a new piece!

There are many benefits to recycling and reusing old clothes. If you wish to donate any clothes when cleaning out your closet, some places you can donate clothes are Chapman, Lotus House, Miami Rescue Mission, Camillus House and The Salvation Army.

Here’s how to make your own DIY Beaded T-shirt at home!

Materials:

  • T-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Beads

Steps:

  1. Start out with any old T-shirt
  2. Cut off or cut open the hemline
  3. Mark how high you want the fringes to go and cut upwards using your scissors. (Adults should handle the scissors or supervise older children when cutting anything)
  4. Cut each fringe diagonally so that it has a triangle tip
  5. Roll each triangle tip between your fingers to create a thinner piece
  6. Add in the beads and colors of your choice (6-8 beads are the perfect amount so that it doesn’t make the shirt too heavy)
  7. Once you add your beads, tie a loose knot on the bottom of the fringe piece. Make sure beads don’t slip out.
  8. Continue to bead all the pieces of fringe and get creative!

Make sure to tune in for more DIY activities during our Craft Nights! Check our Instagram @LLFoundation every Monday-Thursday at 3pm to watch a new DGFG Live.
