This Monday’s Do Good Feel Good Live was kicked off with nothing better than our Craft Night Program. Our special guest for the day was the 14-year-old founder of @GlobalKidMedia Vedant Gupta.
Vedant was about eight years old when he was hanging out with his cousin in India and saw an inspirational quote that said “you are a special person”. He decided to take the quote back to his hometown and say it for the morning announcements at his school. The quote made a big impact on an English teacher and her class, then the rest is history. His road to the media industry was when his school offered the students an opportunity to cover any story they would like. He noticed that the NCAA was hosting a tournament close to him so he decided to make some calls and he succeeded because he was given the opportunity to cover the entire tournament and from that global kid media was born. Vedant Gupta has done over 15 hundred interviews, 200+ hosted shows, 25+ partnerships brands, and hundreds of hours of travel. Last year for The Super Bowl Vedant partnered with MSC Cruise to cover The Super Bowl. Vedant was very excited to partner with MSC Cruise because he is very passionate about the environment and making it a better place for generations to come. His father mentions that his kids are not geniuses, Vedant agrees but also adds that it’s possible because of the opportunity and the dreams it could happen. Even after all his success Vedant also had suffered a lot of rejection because of his age and his look many people would not take him seriously or believe him but for him getting a decline is like looking at new beginnings. Speaking of new beginnings, be on the lookout for his new book coming soon which will mention a lot more of what he has done to get to where he is. For his future, Vedant would love to go to cover The Superbowl again and also The Olympics. There really are no limits when it comes to how big you should dream.
Thank you, Vedant Gupta! You can follow him on Instagram @globalkidmedia

This Tuesday for our #VolunteersWithAVoice Story Hour we had Christian De La Rosa, Local 10 News Reporter. He read Right Now, I Am Kind by Daniela Owen.
Christian De La Rosa joined Local 10 News in April 2017 after spending time as a reporter and anchor in Atlanta, San Diego, Orlando and Panama City Beach. He’s covered an array of national interest stories, including hurricanes and wildfires, and has held numerous government officials accountable. Christian has also done extensive reporting along the border, crossing into Mexico to bring viewers an in-depth look into our country’s immigration crisis. His love for travel and cultures has also taken him to Africa, where he shot, wrote and directed an award-winning documentary about the fight against poverty and AIDS in the region. Christian is a proud graduate of the University of Florida, where he received a bachelor’s degree in radio and TV journalism and a minor in business. Most of his family, including his abuela, “Mamicuchin,” live in the Sunshine State, but Christian grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and also attended La Universidad de Puerto Rico, recinto de Rio Piedras, where he studied labor law.
Christian De La Rosa read Right Now, I Am Kind by Daniela Owen. This is the third book in the author’s Right Now series, where Dr. Daniela Owen, Ph.D. helps children learn what it means to be kind and aware of other people. This book is a guide for children to help them understand why being aware is important, and what actions they can do to show kindness.
Thank you again to Christian De La Rosa for sharing this wonderful story and supporting #VolunteersWithAVoice!

Craft Night with The Motivational Edge Students

This Wednesday we had a wonderful showcase of talent by the students at The Motivational Edge for our Craft Night.
The Motivational Edge is an organization by CEO and Founder Ian Welsch that Engages, Educates and Empowers youth via creative expression and personal development. They aim to provide teens in foster care (ages 14-19) with a support network of local, accessible professionals to teach them skills they otherwise may not learn before the age of 18; with the goal of increasing success rates for youth aging out of care. This progressive and extremely inspirational program takes youth on a journey through creative writing, songwriting and lyrical expression, while at the same time offering a rare and safe outlet for them to positively express themselves, without being judged. This program provides youth with a creative means for musical expression, while at the same time integrating components of literacy into the program, which translates into the academic setting. Using music as a motivational and learning platform, we impel students who are underachieving toward desperately needed academic instruction. The youth currently served by The Motivational Edge are walking testaments that music is an extremely powerful learning tool when integrated into the academic setting.
We had the opportunity to talk to Tyler Heater, Teaching Artist at The Motivational Edge about the current programs and the organization’s mission. As well as enjoyed the musical and lyrical performances of three students.
Thank you to The Motivational Edge for sharing their incredible talent with us!
