For this Monday’s Craft Night, we had Sarah Akiba (@soakiba) as our guest for DGFG Live. Sarah is the founder of Angel Watching Over Me Foundation (AWOM), a non-profit organization based in Miami that aims to provide a safe space for young girls who have lost a friend or loved one in their life.
Sarah was born in Paris, France but was raised in Miami. After she lost her father to lung cancer in 2013, Sarah decided to start AWOM to help support others in a similar situation. Today, AWOM is in its 6th year as an organization, and it has expanded to be able to provide support groups, a girls club, and comfort for members of the community.
Sarah leads Girls Club every Friday at Olsen Middle School in Miami. During their sessions, Sarah and the girls talk about everything and anything; girl problems, family struggles, personal dilemmas, and whatever else they may be dealing with. When asked about Girls Club, Sarah said that she loves to interact and learn from the girls, because they teach her so much and it’s a joy to watch them grow.
Looking towards the future, AWOM is putting on its 5th fashion show for the girls. This year’s event will be pre-recorded due to COVID, but the girls are as excited as ever for it. The models in the show are all girls who take part in Girls Club and AWOM events, and rather than calling them Super Models, Sarah referred to them as “Role Models”. The theme is “In the Clouds”, and Sarah recreated her mood board for the fashion show in the DGFG Craft Night segment. She talks about her inspiration for the show and her process for how she crafted the looks for the event.
Tune in Monday and Wednesday at 3 pm EST for our DGFG Live segments!

This Wednesday for Move & Groove Presented by LaCroix Sparkling Water, we were joined by Kristin DeCesare (@confidance_by_kristin), a professional dancer, instructor, and choreographer.
Kristin started her career as a school teacher but realized that her true passion was for dance. Since starting her professional dance career, Kristin has worked in New York City performing on Saturday Night Live and the New York Knicks dance team. In 2011, Kristin auditioned to be a dancer with Pitbull, and ended up going on tour with him for 3 years.
After touring, Kristin switched over to the business side of Pitbull’s team and served as his creative director. She then decided to retire from touring and start her own company called Confidance by Kristin, where she and a team of instructors teach private and semi-private dance lessons for kids all over the country.
Today, aside from teaching dance, Kristin is a consultant for NBA and MLB dance teams. She has worked with the Chicago Bulls basketball team and the Miami Marlins baseball team. In addition to her work in the dance industry, she is also a trained breathwork facilitator and has found that she has a strong passion for breathwork.
