For this Monday’s Story Hour #VolunteersWithAVoice, we were joined by the City of Aventura Commissioner, Rachel Saltzman Friedland. Rachel did a reading from The Big Umbrella by Amy June Bates.
Rachel is a single mother to four children and a Family Law Attorney. She was born and raised in Miami, and she is extremely passionate about improving the city of Aventura. She spoke to us about her plans for improving traffic in the area, increasing the size of one of the local schools, and increasing police presence.
Rachel is the founder of Aventura-Cares, an organization that works to provide aid for the homeless and those struggling financially in the area. She said that a main goal of the organization is to get the youth involved in giving back to the community. Aventura-Cares frequently collects donations and holds events to help support those in need.
More recently, Rachel started a fundraiser called Aventura Heroes. The goal of the fundraiser was to raise money to deliver meals to first responders in the area during the pandemic. They ended up raising $44,000 and even started a text program for people who needed help. According to GoFundMe for the fundraiser, the money raised also went to local restaurants to help them survive the pandemic.
Tune in Monday and Wednesday at 3 pm EST for our DGFG Live segments!

This Wednesday for Fit Club presented by LaCroix Sparkling Water, we were joined by Roya Siroospour from RoyaFit.
Roya founded RoyaFit, a full-service luxury fitness & wellness concierge based in Miami. RoyaFit partners with local hotels to provide hotel guests, residents, and locals with fitness and wellness services like kickboxing, yoga, and mixed martial arts. They have contracts with local hotels such as Miami Beach Edition and the Ritz Carlton.
Once the pandemic hit, RoyaFit had to pivot to an online format and they began offering digital on-demand classes. These consisted of 6-week programs that allowed RoyaFit’s loyal customers to still take part in the fitness classes. RoyaFit is now starting to re-introduce in-person programming and is offering live classes once again.
Roya’s team consists of 10 other trainers that work alongside her to provide the best quality fitness programming. She said that her trainers speak many different languages, so they are able to accommodate people from all over the world. Roya says that working out makes her a better self, and she wants everyone to feel good about themselves and their bodies.
