Amanda didn’t speak a word of English when she came to Miami from Cuba at age 9, but she quickly took hold of the idea that here, opportunities are limitless if you only put in the work. Raised by a single mother who instilled in her that despite their low income, she was never less than anyone else, Amanda grew to appreciate the importance of social responsibility and made it a goal of hers to seek out socially responsible companies.
Amanda chose a summer internship with the socially responsible Libra Group, interning as operations manager for a luxury boutique hotel while also learning from the company’s work with Syrian refugees.
While maintaining a Cum Laude GPA at FIU, Amanda volunteered with LLF in the Spring of 2018. This turned into an internship opportunity – Amanda helped create and market LLF's many fundraising events, including the Hearts & Stars Gala Weekend 2018! As a volunteer, she also helped fundraise for MACtown in Little Haiti, a nonprofit that provides care for people with disabilities.
After becoming her family’s first U.S. college graduate, Amanda, 23, now uses her marketing background in her new role as LLF's Marketing and Events Coordinator!
