Mindful Hour @ Miami Bridge
This past Thursday, The Little Lighthouse Foundation de-stressed with the children of Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services.
LLF held their weekly Mindful Hour at Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services, an emergency shelter dedicated to helping children and families in crisis. It is Miami-Dade County’s only 24/7 emergency shelter for at risk-youth and as their namesake states, they also help families in crisis.
Mindful Hour is an hour that LLF utilizes to help unwind the children housed at the shelter. The program encourages the children, as well as the adults, to find a moment of peace and reorient themselves while learning practical de-stressing techniques.
Recently, the kids were able to learn some yoga techniques that taught them to relax and decompress. They also learned handy breathing techniques that they can use to calm them down if they ever experience anxiety, anger or sadness.
The kids listened intently, following the instructor through the warm-up. Our volunteers also participated alongside the kids and got in some exercise as well!
Just as the hour was coming to an end, the kids reached peak stillness, having cleared their minds of any bad thoughts and only focusing on positive energy.
Once Mindful Hour was over, the children asked questions about yoga exercises, how they can apply what they’ve learned that day in their everyday life, and expressed their gratitude and stated that while it was peaceful, they still had fun.
